Switch Rods

Switch rods are light and long rods specially designed to precision overhead casts with one hand and Spey casts with two-hands. Suitable then for most situations in smaller rivers when fishing for grilse, sea-trout and sea-char. The rods are light for their length and can be cast one-hand overhead all day without fatigue.

The perfect rod for
a full floating line, fishing riffling hitch, skating flies and dry flies for anadromous fish! When fishing riffling hitch, the need to constantly "manipulate" line to produce a continuous "V" cross current, makes it necessary to use full lines not shooting-heads.

All rods are 4- pieces for easy travelling.

Specifications:
- High modulus graphite,
Toray T-40, equals the very best in the market, thin and powerful blank.
Every rod is carefully built with a suitable action for the fishing it's intended for. The blank is matt black and has discrete windings and the very best rings.
- Grade AA cork handle;
modified two-handed grip.
- Delivered in fabric bag and condura tube.

The Series:

The Varanger: 11 foot AFTM
7, 4-piece. Weight of rod: 148g. Stiffness 174g/ action angle 67.
Our lightest rod for grilse. Favoured line: Guideline Pounch Pro WF7/8.
Excellent for stalking
anadromous fish in smaller rivers or in tight positions where
the ability to use a second hand assist in casting, and controlling drifts, are essential.

The Riffling Hitch: 11,5 foot AFTM 7, 4-piece
. Weight of rod: 150g.
Stiffness 178g/ action angle 65. The ideal rod for riffling hitch, skating flies and dries for grilse! Recommended line Guideline Pounch WF8 (head 11,5m with rear taper / weight 16g), for riffling hitch.
Mainly Spey-casting; head weight for shooting heads: 18 - 22g.

In his fishing at Cairnton, river Dee, A.H.E. Wood, used three split cane one-hand rods made by Hardy, for salmon. His fishing
revolunised fly fishing for salmon through the book Greased Line Fishing For Salmon (Jock Scott). Wood's lightest rod, no.1, was 12 foot and weighted 312 gram! This rod was used for his fishing with flies in size 4 to 10. He had two heavier one-hand rods, also of 12 feet, for bigger flies and sunk line.
For the most experienced fly fishermen, we introduce:

The Wood Legacy: 12 foot,
Spey #8, 4-piece. Weight of rod: 155g. Stiffness 19
0g/ action angle 67. Longer upper handle for comfortable Spey, a delight with it's powerful and pleasant action. Ideal for small flies in crystal clear and low summer salmon rivers!
Outstanding are short
head Spey lines or shooting heads like Rio AFS, with head weight of 26g.
We recommend Guideline Pounch WF9(head with rear taper 11,5m / weight 22g)for real switch casting; also using overhead one-hand casts.
